Low-income senior rebate

If you or your spouse or partner are a senior (65+) and receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) for seniors, you are eligible for a property tax rebate.

How to apply

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for the low-income senior rebate, you or your partner must:

  • Be 65 years old or older
  • Own and occupy your property on a permanent basis
  • Have owned the property for at least one year
  • Pay the remaining property tax balance in full

Vacancy rebate

Commercial and industrial property owners experiencing vacancies are eligible for a tax rebate of up to 30% for commercial properties and 35% for industrial properties.

Please note that 2023 will be the final year eligible for this program. It will be discontinued effective January 1, 2024. The deadline for applications is February 29, 2024.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a vacancy rebate, the building you own must meet one of the following conditions:

  • The entire commercial or industrial building was entirely vacant for at least 90 consecutive days
  • A suite or unit within the commercial building was vacant for at least 90 consecutive days and was clearly delineated or separated from used portions of the building, and was either capable of being leased or not capable of being leased due to repairs or renovations
  • A portion of the industrial building was vacant for at least 90 consecutive days and clearly delineated or separated from the used portions of the building

Charity rebate

Registered charities that own or rent a commercial or industrial property are eligible for a tax rebate of up to 50% on that property.

Applications may also be dropped off at Town Hall.

The deadline to apply for a rebate is February 28 of the following year. If you are renting a property, you may need to contact your landlord to get certain information for your application.
