Handi Transit Bus Service:

This service provides reliable drivers for door-to-door accessible transportation options for people who are unable to use regular transportation options available in the community due to their physical, developmental, or medical needs.

About the Service:

- Operates 5 days per week
- Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 2:45pm
- Offers services that are: safe, reliable, warm, caring and courteous drivers
- Supports community events
- Available on a permanent or temporary basis

 

Eligibility:

- Must live in the municipality of Blind River
- Seniors 65+
- Physical Disability
- Visual Disability
- Developmental Disability
- Cognitive Disability
- Medical Condition
- Recovering from Surgery

Use required securement and seat belts:

Driver's will secure mobility devices (walkers, scooters and wheelchairs) and fasten lap belts for customers in mobility devices. Ambulatory riders must use seat belts.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE A BUS PASS? : Bus passes can be purchased at the town of Blind River municipal office, 11 Hudson Street

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO BUY A BUS PASS? : The fares are as follows In-town $3.50 one way. Extra $3.50 for each stop. Outskirts of town $8.00 one way Extra $3.50 for each stop

WHERE CAN I GET AN APPLICATION? : Applications can be obtained at the municipal office 11 Hudson street, A.J. Bus Lines 370 Leacock Street or by clicking the following link for a copy of the Application.

WHAT CAN I BRING ON THE BUS : 

  • Animals: Service animals are permitted but must be under rider control either on a leash or in a container. All other animals must be in a secure container.
  • Personal Oxygen: The driver will secure the tank but cannot operate the controls.
  • Groceries: Must be contained in a two or four wheeled collapsible cart. Inform the person booking when you request your ride. Drivers will assist you with grocery-sized bags if needed.
  • Other items: Drivers adhere to AJ Bus Lines no lift policy. Items may be brought on board if: 
    • the rider or attendant is able to carry the item to and from the bus;
    • the item is small enough to be held on your lap, or placed under the seat or elsewhere that is clear of the aisle.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY RIDE?: For cancellations call A.J. Bus Lines at 705-356-7889 as soon as possible - no later that one hour before scheduled pick-up time to avoid a "no-show". Riders will be billed for a "no-show"

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM NOT READY IN TIME? : The driver will wait up to five additional minutes after the scheduled pick up time.

DO I NEED EXACT FARE? : Yes, please have the exact change or pass.

HOW DO I BOOK A RIDE? : For bookings please call A.J. Bus Lines at 705-356-7889 Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. For guaranteed rides it is best to call 24 hours in advance. Trips are booked on a first come first serve basis. You can book a ride up to 7 days in advance.

WHAT WILL I NEED WHEN I BOOK? : You will need to provide your first and last name, date and time of ride, pick-up and drop off addresses, if you use a wheelchair, scooter, walker or cane and if a companion/visitor will be travelling with you.
