Water Flushing June 5th and 6th

Upcoming Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) Advisory – June 5th and 6th

The Town will be conducting Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) of the water distribution system from June 5th and 6th. This essential maintenance ensures clean, reliable, and safe water for our community by flushing out sediment and improving water quality.

We will be completing UDF flushing this Thursday and Friday (June 5th and 6th) starting around 9am. The following areas may experience discolored water and low-pressure events:

Thursday

  1. Areas flushed - north central (north of Murray St.) - Huron St., Riverside Ave., Woodward Ave. (near Dawsy St.), Sunset Point Rd., Robb Rd. and Hwy 557 north of Robb Rd.
  2. Areas flushed- central (north of Causley) - Scott Ave., Woodward Ave., Dyke St., Hawkins St., Lachore St., Fremont St., West St., Birch Rd. and Lawton

Friday

  1. Areas flushed south central (east of river) – Queen Ave., Cobden Ave., Lawton Ave. (near Woodward), Martin St. (east end)
  2. Areas flushed – south central (west of river) – Indiana Ave., Michigan Ave., Lakeside Ave., Pearson Ave. (south of Youngfox) and Youngfox

What Is UDF?:

Unidirectional flushing (UDF) is a routine maintenance process used in municipal water systems to clean water pipes. It involves forcing water through isolated sections of the system at high speeds in one direction, using carefully planned valve and hydrant operations. This helps remove sediment, minerals, and other debris that can build up in the pipes over time.

What to Expect:

  • Temporary Water Discoloration: Some residents may experience discoloured water during the flushing. This is normal and safe, but we recommend avoiding laundry or dishwashing during these periods.
  • Slight Water Pressure Changes: Water pressure may fluctuate temporarily while the flushing takes place in your area.
  • Air in the Lines: You may notice some air in your water lines. Running your taps for a few minutes should clear this up.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our water system clean and efficient.

Instructions

  • If you notice water discoloration, run cold water from your taps until it runs clear. (15-30 minutes) - Your bathtub faucet or outdoor tap works best.
  • If you have flushed your taps and discoloration persists or you experience a loss of water, please contact PUC immediately at 705-356-7501 or 705-759-6520 (After-hours)
