ParticipACTION Community Challenge 2025

The Town of Blind River is competing to capture the title of Most Active Community in Canada in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. This national initiative encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout the month of June, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community and awarding it with $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.

Who can participate in the Community Challenge?

The Community Challenge is open to everyone in Canada! Local governments and community organizations can register their June physical activity and sport initiatives, programs and events and track the numbers of participants on the Challenge web portal from June 1 to 30.

The more organizations that register for the Challenge and track their programs, initiatives and events, the better your community’s chances of being named Canada’s Most Active Community!

This printable Community Challenge information sheet shares the benefits of taking part as an organization, how to participate and links to other useful resources.

If you are a member of a sports team or a community group, you can register for the Community Challenge as an organization! Visit the ParticipACTION website to register your organization, register your activities and start tracking!

Tips and Tricks to WIN!

Groups can participate be entering their events and participation numbers directly on the Community Challenge web portal.

Here are some examples of events and activities that community groups/organizations could track:

  • School physical education classes
  • Group fitness classes
  • Use of a local walking trail by a hiking group
  • Workplace physical activity (e.g. active jobs, lunchtime walks)

Stay tuned to the Town of Blind River Facebook page throughout the month of June for more information and updates on planned activities.

What is national health and fitness day?

National Health and Fitness Day is an annual coast-to-coast-to-coast celebration of physical activity held on the first Saturday in June (June 7 in 2025).

It was established in 2014 after the Government of Canada passed the National Health and Fitness Day Act to make Canadians more aware of the important health benefits of physical activity, urge them to get more active, and encourage local governments and organizations to host events and initiatives that celebrate and promote the significance and use of parks and local fitness, sport and recreational facilities.
