The Town of Blind River has heard you concerns in regards to ongoing mess and unauthorized dumping at the rural waste collection bins. In order to prevent unauthorized dumping and ensure fair use by eligible residents we will be implementing a new initiative.
Starting February 2nd, 2026, all common collection bins located in rural areas will be secured with locking mechanisms. Only residents whose properties are serviced by these bins will receive a key to access the bins. This new program is in an effort to keep this area clean, welcoming and safe for humans and wildlife.
Why Are We Doing This?

To prevent illegal dumping by unauthorized users.

To ensure bins are available for the residents serviced by each location.

To reduce the costs of excess waste handling and clean-up being unfairly absorbed by local taxpayers.
What This Means for the affected residents:

You will receive one key per eligible property at no charge.

Keys will be made available for pickup upon your return.

Please store your key securely and do not duplicate or share it with unauthorized users.
Key Distribution Options:

Pick Up: Keys will be available at 11 Hudson St. from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays.

Mailing: Keys can be mailed to your address on file. If you prefer this option or need to update your mailing address, please contact us by March 1st, 2026.

Lost or Replacement Keys:

Replacement keys may be available for a nominal fee of $15 per key.

Tenants of rental properties must obtain keys from the property owner.
