Blind River is seeking 2 energetic and highly motivated individuals to join our team. Successful candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be between the ages of 15-30. These positions are seasonal for the summer of 2022 and graciously funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

The Town is accepting applications for the positions of Marketing Assistant and Heritage Ambassador.

Marketing Assistant – will enthusiastically greet and engage with visitors to answer questions, provide information, and promote Blind River and area attractions, events, and businesses. Update local service directories, work with the Admin Coordinator to liaise with Town Senior Administration to design and produce advertisements (posters, posts, rack cards, brochures, videos, etc.), provide visitors with current and up-to-date health and safety instructions. Work with Timber Village Museum staff to design and produce advertisements (posters, posts, rack cards, brochures, etc.) for the museum’s 2022-2023 exhibition calendar. Ensure cleanliness of Pinecones Gift Shop within the Tourist Info Centre, fill online orders for pickup, and update stock where necessary. Provide interpretation for the Northern Ontario Logging Memorial (outdoor) and the satellite Museum exhibit (indoor). Work with local Museum staff to digitize artefacts for social media calendar content where necessary. Provide staff coverage in Museum Gift Shop at Marine Park when necessary.

Heritage Ambassador – will work closely with the Museum Curator to catalogue and photograph newly acquired artefacts and update the collections management database with current information. They will also help with daily environmental and pest monitoring at the museum and manage the statistics received from the satellite display at the Tourist Information Centre. The Heritage Ambassador is the first face visitors see when they visit the Timber Village Museum and will also be expected to greet visitors, collect admission, process gift shop sales, and provide guided tours.  They will also have the opportunity to research, plan, coordinate and advertise educational programs, activities, exhibits and events with an emphasis on helping the Museum develop and expand both public and school programs as well as new research compilations.

The ideal candidates should possess:

  • An interest in local arts, culture & heritage.
  • Basic computer skills. Experience using different social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.) Graphic design skills using Adobe Suite programs or Canva would be an asset.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Prior customer service experience would be an asset.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring medium level of physical effort, including but not limited to moving garbage, cleaning, and vacuuming.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, as required.
  • Knowledge of town recreation sites, services, and amenities is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills an asset.
  • Current enrollment in or completion of secondary school diploma, or equivalent is an asset, but not required.

Ability to work a flexible schedule; weekends, afternoons, stat holidays, and dayshifts are required.
